Portsmouth based artist Chérie creates abstract sculpture, mixed media paintings and prints. Assemblage forms an essential role in her practice. While figuration is hinted at, she is more concerned with articulating aspects of the human spirit which exist independently of the body. A deep emotional attachment to colour is evident in all her work.
Embracing the history within found materials, she combines constructed elements in cast concrete, paper pulp, silicon, plaster and metal.
While her sculptures often imbue a sense of fun, many are delicately balanced and deliberately fragile, referencing the tightrope we walk between sense and nonsense, desire and fear.
